Twitter
Twitter is used to reach my audience because the target audience for my teen film is aimed at teenagers and twitter is a popular social networking site that teenagers use, so it is a easy way for me to reach out to them. On twitter they can follow the films page and keep updated on whats going on.

Question 4:

Who would be the audience for your media product ?

Here is a twitter profile of a person that would be targeted for my media product:

This person is a specific member of my target audience because he is in his teens and my film is targeted at teens 16-18. This profile also shows that he is apart of my target audience is because of his interests. He is following a London rapper named 'Fekky' this artist raps about guns, drugs and sex and this is some of the genres that are shown in my media product and this is why my film will be targeted at this member. Another reasons why is because of the programme he watched 'BBC EastEnders' this programme is based in London and so it my teen film which is why this member is specifically targeted.
A teen film is a film directed at teenagers and young adults that has a story based on interests of teenagers. Teenagers and young adults are usually the people that the teen film interesting as they feel as though they can relate to the characters and story line. Usually in a teen movie the genres which are common are horror, romance or action.
The audience more specific to my sub genre are teenagers that are interested in horror and action. The reason for this is because my film consist some aspects of action in the opening scene and throughout the film there is a lot of horror. Two other specific target audiences that my film may interest are teenagers that live in London and are middle class. The reason why i say people that live in London is because the film was filmed in London so the teenagers can relate because some things that may be happening in the film may be happening to them or they may have experienced it. The reason why i said middle class teenagers is because a lot of middle classed people live in London, so again this could relate to them.
For my USP i have made a twitter page for my film and i have made a banner that can be used on buses. This unique selling point is good for my specific target audience because twitter is now a very popular social networking site that a lot of teenagers use. Secondly i have made a banner for buses for my unique selling point because teenagers take the bus a lot so it can be seen.

Question 1:

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Teen films have a variety of defining conventions. Four of those defining conventions could include the   characters, the dialogue, the opening credits and the story line. In most teen films there is a main character then there are supporting characters. If there are too many characters then the audience will lose the closeness of the character and they may become irrelevant. Most characters have a stereotype that they play out throughout the film. In terms of the dialogue, most of the time it creates a symbolic relationship between the actors an the writer of the film, whether it is diagetic or non-diagetic it must have an impact if used at the start of the film opening. Thirdly the opening credits are useful when trying to grab the attention of the audience straight away and it introduces the main characters to the audience. Lastly the theme of the film is presented by using different elements in the opening for example the location - if it were a horror film the location would mostly likely be dark and gloomy.

My media product uses forms and conventions of real media through, themes, opening credits and the introduction of characters.

Final evaluation

The final film opening is now finished. Throughout the opening there is travelling, sound, and representation. In terms of travelling we have walking, for sound we have two instrumentals so that the two social groups is represented (the gangsters and the innocent girl), a voice over, and a sound effect and for representation we have made the used mise en scene so the audience can tell the difference between the two social groups (the gangster and the average girl).
If there were any improvements to be made we could have added more another travelling scene for example a bus scene - we took shots for this scene but we did no add it to the film because it didn't fit in. For sound we could have added monologue so that the characters could've informed the audience with thoughts that they may have had, this could have changed the opinion that the audience had of the character due to their surface appearance.
How we represented the characters was okay so no change would have been made for this.

Overall I am pleased with the film opening scene although there could be some changes and me and my group have successfully worked together to finish it all. Throughout the project we have bonded and come together as one to get everything done, we have helped each other out with editing, filming and blogging and we have all learnt a lot and had a lot of fun !

Evalutation of editing - Lesson 6.

In today's lesson we carried on editing. In the editing we adding the credits for the opening and we also added sound. We decided to use instrumentals for the music because we thought it had more of an impact. We chose a song from youtube then converted it into a mp3 file using an online converter.  The song we chose was a instrumental it's rough, loud and has a lot of bass. However it starts off soft, the reason why we chose this song is because it builds up tension for the opening and it makes the audience engage in the film as soon as it starts, which makes them want to watch more.
Once we finished adding the sound and credits we then asked Fergus to give us feedback on what we had finished. From watching it he told us that we could make the credits longer and add some sound effects as well as music. After receiving the feedback we then made changes.
The first change we did was the credits, we made them longer so they crossed over more than one clip. The second change we did was adding sound effect, we adding a sound effect of a gate closing which matches with the clip and we also did a voice over of one of the gang members screaming. The reason why we chose to add the voice over is because we thought it had more of an impact compared the diegetic sound.
We carried on editing throughout lunch to make sure everything was perfect and we are now finished our teen film.

Evalutation of editing - Lesson 5.

In this lesson we exported what we had so far and uploaded it onto youtube so that we could import it onto the blog. After uploading the rough cut we then presented it and got some feedback.

  • Change girls scream
  • Choose different section of opening
  • Jump cut when looking left and right
  • Spacing between chase scene
  • Idents titles and sound

  • From the feedback we decided that next lesson we will change the girls scream and let the gang member that is chasing the girl scream. We will do this as a voice over instead of re-filming the shot again because it will save time.
We will change the opening section so that we get to the subject of the section instead of showing the station.
In terms of the jump cut, we will have a transition from one scene to another so that we change scene quicker.
Thirdly we will space the chasing scene so that it isn't so long and it doesn't take up so much space in the opening sequence so that we have space to maybe add other clips.
Lastly we will add the titles and sound over the scene. We will also add the ident at the end of the opening scene. The credits will be added over the clips and they will fade in and out. The font from the ident will be the same font used for the credits so that it looks professional.

    Feedback

Some feedback that we recieved this lesso:
    • change girls scream
    • choose different section of opening
    • jump cut when looking left and right
    • spacing between chase scene
    • jump cut in park
    • idents titles and sound

    Evidence of Filming 4

In todays lesson we have re-shot some scenes which have previously filmed but haven't come out the way that we would have liked it to. We also finished off filming the last few scenes of our opening. We have also edited our opening.

    Evaluation of filming 4.

In this lesson we filmed the final footage that we figured we needed from listening to the feedback that we were given. We decided to film one more chase scene from a road right next to the park. This is where everyone runs into the park from the chase. To make the shots better than the last chase shots we used the fig rig to stabilise the camera and to make sure the movement of the camera was much smoother. We also used the fig rig when filming from the tree to stabilise the camera. We also filmed the girl hiding and everyone seeing the witch. We had a few problems when filming, one of the problems was the rain, it started raining but we still carried on filming (while we has a umbrella over the camera), the rain also made the surface slipper so we had to take extra care with our movement and the equipment so that neither us or the equipment got harmed. Another problem that we has was there was a lot of people in the park and so it was harder for us to film because they got involved in most of the shots so we had to retake, which wasted a lot of time. Having a lot of people in the park also meant that it was noisy and so we had to suggest that we used voiceover just incase none of the dialogue from the actual footage could be used. Overall we had as enjoyable filming lesson and we finished filming. Once we got back to lesson we carried on editing during lunch, which helped us catch up with filming.

Next lesson: we will finish editing and add the ident and finishing touches to the opening scene.

    Evidence of filming 3

On the 3rd day of filming we filmed are last scene in the park. We took shots of the girl running, the gang running after her and everyone in the park. The shot types vary as we have long, short and 2 person shots.
Below are images of us filming. These pictures have been taken using the normal camera.

    Todays lesson

In todays lesson we have been editing our clips and making the ident for the film.
Mid way through editing are teacher came and watched what we had so far and gave us feedback on how we could improve the editing and other shots that we needed.

Some of the verbal feedback that we received:

    • Film different shot types as we are lacking a few shots.
    • Delete previous shots from the intro because they're not needed.
    • Add some sound to the intro.

As well as the editing we have also started making the ident for the film in motion.
We have used a template from the software as we don't have time to figure out how to use it completely and make our own.
Below are screenshots of us editing and the ident being made.

    Evaluation of filming 3.

In this lesson we filmed everyone running into the park at different times. At this part of the opening this is when the witch get involved. To the audience notice this we filmed footage of one of the gang members walking in at the top of the tree, this is the witch looking down at him. As well as the witches point of view we also filmed different point of view from different characters so that the characters can feel more involved in the scene and so that they can get a better view of what is going on. A problem that we has while filming was the surface of the park was slippery because it was raining, to avoid any accidents we took care while we were walking and we made sure that when we were filming, the surface we were on wasn't too slippery so we couldn't slip if has the equipment in are hands. Also because we didn't have a lot of time we didn't get as much footage done as we intended, however we have enough time to get some final footages filmed next lesson.

    Evidence of filming 2

During our second lesson of filming, we travelled on the bus to finish filming our chase scene. We used a variety of  camera shots, different takes and angles to complete our chase scene.

    Evaluation of filming 2

In the second day of filming we filmed the traveling scene with the gang traveling on the bus and also some more of the chasing scene because we thought we needed some more because we weren't satisfied with all the shots that we took in the previous filming session. In this lesson we were able to film a lot of shots of the bus scene as well as the chase. In the bus scene we filmed the gang having a conversation and walking off the bus then in the chase scene we has the boy running after the girl and the gang running after them both. We filmed a lot of close ups, two shots and extreme close ups in this filming session because we figured out that we didn't have much from the first lesson. Also we didn't think we had any shots that really introduced the characters to the audience. Even though it was a sunny day we were having problems because there was too much light which made it hard for us to see what we were filming in the camera. Apart from that we has another successful day and we finish filming the 'chase scene'.

Next lesson: we will the chase scene in the park and the scene in the park

    Evidence of filming 1

During this lesson we have filmed the first scene of our teen film. The lesson has been very productive as we have plenty of footage and worked efficiently as a team. The images below are evidence of the team taking turns to film. These shots were taken at Angel station and the bus stop close by. In the upcoming lesson we will go back to filming shots at the other location 'Cool pepper community garden'.
